National Archives of Australia Collection

The National Archives of Australia holds official records of each prime minister’s time in office, as well as many of their personal records.

You can explore some of these records on the National Archives’ website. Records become available to the public once they enter the open access period as set out in the Archives Act 1983. Once released to the public, many are digitised and made available on RecordSearch, the National Archives’ searchable collection database.

National Archives staff can help you access both original and digitised records.

The National Archives has also published several research guides about Australia’s prime ministers and the archival collections associated with them. You can purchase the guides in hard copy or download them from the National Archives’ website.
